This applies to myself and to the Steelers today. This morning got off to a good start. I woke up at exactly 9:55am in order to catch the Steeler’s game which started at 10. It even was broadcast on TV here, which doesn’t happen all that often. Usually to watch Steeler games I have to find some poor-quality streaming video online, which always seems to break up at the very worst times.
After a pretty exciting game, WE WON! I was so psyched. The problem was that at the same time, the Houston Texans won their game. There were two possible scenarios that could play out in order for us to get into the playoffs – and one of them included the Texans losing. So that one was out. That left the second one – the Ravens, the Jets and the Broncos all had to lose their game. Unfortunately… that didn’t happen. So we gave it what we had yesterday, but luck wasn’t on our side and we will not be in the playoffs next year.
But that’s ok, because that will give us plenty of time to start training for next year! Polamalu will be back and healthy, and we will get superbowl ring #7. Just you watch
While we watched the game, we ate some good football food. Buffalo chicken crispy strips!
Dipped in ranch dressing, of course.
The other thing is that right after the Steelers game (and AT&T better thank their lucky stars that it happened after the game was over and not during the game…) our cable went out. So no more TV. We got the rest of the days football scores online.
Today was also a good run for me. I did my first training run for my next marathon, which I hope will be the Pittsburgh marathon in May. It was just a six miler, but I was psyched because I haven’t run in quite a while – at least a few weeks. Don’t ask me why – some combination of holidays, busyness and lazyness. Not necessarily in that order. Before I ran, I had some chocolate for a boost.
I decided to wear my heart rate monitor for this run, too. I always use the Garmin, but rarely wear the heart rate strap because I find it kind of annoying. But I would like to get a better time in my next marathon, so I am going to be training more with my heart rate monitor and checking out different speeds.
S decided to come with me. Unfortunately, he got tired after a couple of miles so we had to go slower than I wanted to go. But at least I got the distance in. As my runs get longer, he will be back on the bike rather than running with me, so I will be able to push the speed a little more.
We did 6.2 miles in 57 minutes, averaging 9:18 minute miles. Not too shabby, for my first run in a while.
Afterwards, I was starving. I grabbed and apple and two clementines first and ate them on the spot.
Then I remembered that I needed some protein. So I made some quick turkey spinach wraps, with laughing cow cheese and some italian dressing.
Unwrapped:
Wrapped!
When we got home, the cable still wasn’t working so S called up AT&T and made some noise. They are supposedly coming to fix it first thing tomorrow morning. I’m not getting my hopes up. Oh well, I thought. At least my internet is working.
And then…
All of a sudden….
MY COMPUTER GOT A VIRUS! I have no idea how it happened, because I wasn’t downloading anything. I must have downloaded it a while ago, and then some action that I took on my computer triggered it. It was a super annoying one, it kept giving me these fake Microsoft popups telling me it detected a threat and I needed to download protection software. Oh yeah… and it kept putting these porn icons on my desktop! S got a kick out of that one. While I was practically ripping my hair out, he was laughing and saying “Oh well, it could be much worse than a virus that puts porn on your computer.” MEN!
Luckily, S is a genius. He worked on it for a long time, almost all night, and finally got rid of the virus. Don’t ask me how – some computer science magic and a lot of crap in the registry. I just said THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! and made us dinner.
Spinach salad with carrots, hummus dressing, turkey, goat cheese and crumbled rice crackers on top. Followed shortly by:
The last of the sugar cookie ice cream! Actually, there was twice this much left but I was super nice and gave half to S to thank him for fixing my computer. Bye bye, sugar cookie ice cream. I hope they still have a few left when I go back to the store sometime this week…
Right before bed, I couldn’t resist a piece of fudge.
So for today, that’s all she wrote. Back to work tomorrow, vacation is over. And football season is over for the Steelers too. Oh well, we had a good run. See you next year, Big Ben.

Aw, Big Ben. I’m a HUGE Bears fan, but my grandpa has been a life-long Steelers fan…so I have a little love for them, too.
