Feel like a kid again

Another fun day!  Cupcakes, library and Dave and Busters.  I feel like a kid again!

Breakfast was brown sugar oatmeal and a nutella sammy.

Mid-morning, I took my Sarah and Brett to Santana Row.  Such a fun place to look around.  The shops there are incredible… and always make me wish I was RICH!!!

Brett and Sarah liked the giant chess board.

IMG_9443

And then I found… Kara’s Cupcakes!  I had never been here before.

IMG_9449

So yummy looking!  I wanted to eat them all!!

 IMG_0021

Cupcakes are such a beautiful food.

IMG_0022

My sister and I picked some out…

 IMG_9452

Guess which ones I picked?!?!

IMG_0033

I got a vanilla (my favorite, even though everybody else thinks it is boring…) and a carrot cake cupcake.

IMG_0038

I had the vanilla one as soon as I got home.  The verdict?  Delicious!  Not quite as good as Sprinkles, though.  Those are the best cupcakes I have ever had.  Period.

Lunch was a big salad with green beans, eggs, Hebrew National hot dog, nuts and cheese on top.

IMG_0027

JB hung with me on the couch while I worked and ate my lunch.

IMG_9470

Did I mention that sometimes I work on the couch???  More often than not, actually.  Occasionally, I make it to the desk.  But not usually.

I took a brief play break.

IMG_9471

Dinner was pizza.  Frozen, delicious pizza.  With all the toppings.  And I ate a lot.  And it was good.  I heart pizza.

And then we hit up Dave and Busters.  There was a lot of skeeball playing, basketball playing, and motorbike riding:

IMG_9480

I think my motorbike riding in real life has helped.  Before, I always came in last in this game.  This time, I came in 6th ;)   S always comes in first, of course.  But I kick butt in the basketball game.  The four of us played five times, and I came in first every single time!!

When we came home, I ate my other cupcake.  Also, my sister made ranch popcorn and I ate a bowl about the size of my entire body.  So good.  She put a little oil in the pan, popped the popcorn, and then tossed it in ranch dressing powder.  Sooooo good.

Bedtime for Bozos.  I managed to catch the last 30 min of 24, so I got my Jack Bauer fix for the week.  Now my sister and Brett are watching Greek…  never seen that one.  And not sure yet… but probably won’t be watching it again any time soon….

G’night, ya’ll.

I love my bike, the redwoods, and fondue!!!

Today was an awesome day.  It started out with a ride on my new motorbike!

Here are S and I with our bikes.  Aren’t they awesome???

IMG_9309

Gettin on the gear…

IMG_9311

Mounting,

IMG_9312

And off we go!

IMG_9313

We just went around the block a couple of times.  I did a lot better today… more confidence, less dropping, and just had fun!  I was so happy and excited when I pulled back into the driveway where my sister and Brett were waiting.

IMG_9331

S gave me a few hints and tips about our ride, which always help.

IMG_9327

And then… my sister decided to conquer a fear.  She has a major fear of motorcycles, so we finally convinced her to go for a spin around the block on the back of S’s bike.  I helped her get on:

IMG_9333

And gave her some last minute instructions.  I think she was hyperventilating.

IMG_9334

She came back with a huge smile on her face.  She had so much fun, and was proud that she conquered her fear!  (Sorry, Mom!)

IMG_9338

After the bike adventure, we got ready to head to Big Basin Redwoods State Park to take a hike in the redwoods.  I was really excited for it, because I have never been to this park before.  The California Redwoods are amazing!

 IMG_9353 IMG_9358

We went on a 3.5 mile hike.  The beginning was sunny and beautiful – the redwoods are so huge!

IMG_9361

IMG_9359

Towards the end, it was getting really dark in the forest.  The whole trail was pretty muddy too, so we got a little dirty.  It was fun!

IMG_9400

Kinda spooky!

When we got home, we decided to do FONDUE for dinner!  I cut up bread, veggies, chips and lil’ smokies hot dogs.  Then the feast began!

IMG_9436

I heart cheese.

IMG_9438

Between the four of us, we KILLED that fondue pot!

IMG_9439

The majority of it was S and I, for sure.  Brett and my sister don’t eat very much.  S usually doesn’t either, but tonight we were champs!

There was swiss chocolate for dessert, too.

What a great day.  I’m sorry that it’s back to work for me tomorrow.  But hopefully I will find some time to do some fun stuff with Sarah and Brett!!  ;)

Hiking, SJ and SF

The past few days have been really fun.  Living here for almost four years already, I forget what an amazing place it is.  Also, having not seen my sister for a couple of years, I forgot how much fun she is to be around!  Brett being here makes everything even more fun.  He is a really nice guy and I’m glad my sister got such a catch ;)

This was a picture my sister just gave me of her and Brett on the airplane on the way here.  They were so excited!

IMG_9058

When they arrived, they couldn’t stop basking in the sunlight and oohing and aahing over the flowers everywhere.  They were so happy to see blue skies and bright flowers in the beginning of March.  That’s something that I have started to take for granted a little bit, but it’s so great seeing it through their eyes.  It reminds me how thankful I should be to have this while other people are having snow, rain, and generally poor weather!

IMG_9083

Yesterday afternoon we took advantage of the beautiful weather and went on a hike in Los Gatos.

IMG_9098

My sister and Brett don’t get to hike as much as they would like in Ohio, especially in the winter.  So they requested that we do lots of good hiking while they were in town.

IMG_9101

Do you think we look alike?

IMG_9146

I don’t see the resemblance at all.

We even saw a few cute bunnies!

IMG_0006

They also met Mendy and JB for the first time.  JB was hiding at first, but now is starting to come around and hang out with us all.  Mendy, of course, was friendly right off the bat.  Especially once they came home from a trip to the dollar store with a new cat toy!!

IMG_9166

Friday evening we went into downtown San Jose.  S took Sarah and Brett on a quick tour of the San Jose office for his company, where some quick games of foosball were played.  Obviously.

IMG_0007

We walked around the city, and went out for dinner.

IMG_9169

Unfortunately, I didn’t take a picture of that.  But I did take a picture of this:

IMG_9171

Chocolate mousse cake at Bijan Bakery where we went for dessert and a coffee.

Brett’s actions shot:

IMG_9172

A good time was had by all.

Saturday morning we headed up to San Francisco.  Once again, it was a beautiful, sunny day.  This is more rare in San Francisco than in San Jose, so I didn’t take it for granted!

Once again, we stopped by S’s office for a quick tour of the office he currently works out of.

More foosball.  Obv.

  IMG_9176

Then we walked around Fishermans Wharf and the Embarcadero.

IMG_9208

The parking lot at the wharf was completely packed… we barely got a space at the top on the 5th level!

IMG_9184
First we saw my favorite… the sea lions!

IMG_9189

And of course the seagulls, I’m not a fan.  But they do photograph well!  My sister loved the sea lions.

IMG_0014

We saw the teeniest dog that I have ever seen.  Is this even a dog?

IMG_9187

Brett and Sarah loved looking at Alcatraz, too.  There were tons of boats out on the water since the weather was so nice.

IMG_9193

I saw my friend Sponge Bob hanging out at the Wharf…

IMG_9197

He was happy to see me.

IMG_9198

Brett made a friend, too.

IMG_9221

We saw the making of the sourdough.  Sarah loved this little turtle.

IMG_9231

IMG_9225

I loved these adorable measuring spoons.

IMG_9234

Of course we went to Ghirardelli Square…

IMG_9251

Where a big sundae was had.  Brett initially looked very overwhelmed.

IMG_0017

But the task became more manageable when my sister came back from the bathroom.

IMG_9249

I love seeing all the chocolate as they are making it for their sundaes.

IMG_0019

IMG_0020

We got back to the car right as the sun was beginning to set.

IMG_9258

Then we headed close to the Golden Gate Bridge, where we watched it set completely.

IMG_9267

It was a fantastic day!

Unfortunately, I have to work tonight, so it will be a long night and I will likely be tired tomorrow.  But I am loving my sister being here!!!

Sisterly arrival

My sister came into town today!  She and her boyfriend are visiting for a week and I am very excited.  I haven’t seen my sister for over two years!  She has never been to California before, and I also had never met her boyfriend, Brett.

Unfortunately, before their arrival I had a dentist appointment.  I had to have two cavities filled.  I have never had any cavities before, so was pretty nervous.  When I woke up, I made some pumpkin oats for breakfast.

102_1327

Shortly after, I headed to the dentist.  All-in-all, it wasn’t that bad.  I mean, it certainly wasn’t pleasant, but it wasn’t torture, either.  I will have to go back in a couple of weeks and have the remaining ones filled, and although I’m not looking forward to it… now I’m not quite as anxious.  I know I will come out alive ;)

I was starving by the time I got home, so I whipped up a quick batch of french toast.

102_1387

Just as I was finishing up the last few bites, my cell phone rang.  My sister and Brett had already landed in San Jose, a half hour early!

This is a picture of them from my sister’s recital.  Aren’t they cute??

sarah_brett

It was a blast hanging out with them today and showing them where I live.  S also met them for the first time when he got home from work.

Now I want to show you the condition of my legs.  These are my battle wounds from learning to ride the motorcycle.  Please ignore the pasty white-ness of my mid-winter legs.

102_1391

The bruises in the middle of each lower leg are from the foot pegs of the bike.  Because my legs aren’t long enough to put down on the ground a little farther away from the bike, the foot pedals of the bike in the motorcycle class dug into my legs and created bruises.  I tried putting my legs in front of and behind the foot pegs, but that only resulted in more bruises on the front and back of my legs.  Lovely!

The one on the side of my knee is from one of my many drops when I fell and the bike fell on top of me.

Update:  since taking this picture, I now have an additional bruise on the other knee.  They have to coordinate and match, don’t ya know.

Lunch was a huge salad.  Turkey, cheese, almonds, eggs, veggies.

102_1358

After our TJs trip, we had a little popcorn party.  It was microwave popcorn.  But we bought regular popping corn today, so that will be on tap for our next popcorn party!!!

102_1400

I also snacked on two kiwis, and a blood orange.

102_1410

102_1405

Dinner was pepperoni pizza.  Twas a pizza night for all.

102_1419

I also had some swiss chocolate for dessert.

Now I’m going to watch Survivor and play with my sister and Brett!

I’m sorry that I haven’t been very diligent with my blogging.  But I have a good reason, I am happy to report.  And here it is:

    IMG00032-20100303-1500

MY NEW BIKE!  Yes, it is officially mine.  It is a 2005 Yamaha R6 and is in beautiful condition.

    IMG00035-20100303-1502

I bought it yesterday, and officially rode it for the first time!  The other great thing is… the previous owner lowered the seat a little bit so I can touch the ground a little more easily.  So it’s perfect for me!  I’m very excited about my new baby.

Back to regular blogging soon, I promise!
