This weekend I went to a magical place. A place where I haven’t been for years. A place where… you come hungry and leave happy.
That place is IHOP.
S and I went there on Saturday morning and it made my entire weekend.
My plate:
S’s plateSSSSSSS:
We also had coffee, orange juice and a fruit bowl. I expected to walk out of there totally stuffed, but I was pleasantly surprised because I ate every bite on my plate but walked out perfectly satisfied. I was a hungry monster! I was shocked that S ate every morsel of his meal, too.
We are champions!!
Who is not a champion? BLOCKBUSTER. Just a disclaimer – S and I are huge redbox fans. There is a redbox in the grocery store a few miles away, and we love to go there and get our $1 movie fix. However, this weekend we both really wanted to watch the movie Scream. One problem with redbox is that it doesn’t have a huge selection of older movies. I thought I remembered that Blockbuster just charged $0.99 for an old movie like that, so we headed over there. We picked it up and got up to the cash register, and the girl ringing us up said
Your total is $5.00.
First I thought I misheard her, and then I thought she had scanned in the movie wrong. But no… it was correct! Blockbuster actually charges $5 to rent old movies. I could BUY that movie for less than $5 at many places! Cheapskate that I am, I dropped the dvd like a hot potato and got out of there. No wonder they are having so much financial trouble.
Dear Blockbuster,
In the past I have tried to defend you when I heard people say that you were going to go out of business or couldn’t stand a chance against Netflix. However, I will defend you no more. Until I am able to rent Scream and other old movies for $0.99, I’m afraid you are on your own.
Sincerely,
Rachel
In other late-breaking foodie news, I picked up some coconut milk yogurt at Whole Foods to try for the first time. It was on sale and I have been hearing some good things about it, so I decided to give it a shot. I got a big container of the vanilla, and of the plain. On Saturday, I was totally psyched to break out the vanilla.
Um… yuck. I took two bites – the first was yucky, the second confirmed the first – and knew it was a no-no. I made S try it, and he seconded my opinion. The taste was bad, and the texture was even worse – really watery and blech. So into the trash it went. After I threw it away I realized I could have tried to use it in a recipe, but oh well. I still have the plain to use, though. Anybody have any good ideas for recipes using yogurt made with coconut milk?
The rest of the weekend was relatively uneventful. Sunday morning I met with a friend to run in Palo Alto. I did 10 miles – she ran 6.5 with me, and then I did the last 3.5 by myself. Those last 3.5 were tough, and I was exhausted by the time I was finished. And pretty much wiped out for the rest of the day.
Also, on Friday I signed up for the San Jose Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon on October 3rd. I really want to nail down a marathon for the fall or early spring… I am open to suggestions (keep in mind that I can only run 10 miles at this time…)
Tomorrow begins operation NO MORE POP at work! I’m going cold turkey. And tomorrow is also the finale of the Bachlorette! Not that I would ever watch such a show…
